Description:

Showcased here is an image of the Dark Wolf Nebula, also known as the Fenrir Nebula or SL17. Residing within the emission nebula RCW113 (or Gum 55), this dark nebula is nestled in the constellation of Scorpius. The nebula’s uncanny resemblance to a wolf gives it its intriguing name.

Although it’s not frequently imaged, the Dark Wolf Nebula offers a captivating spectacle. Its dark dust lanes etch a silhouette against the more radiant backdrop of RCW113, creating a stark contrast that vividly outlines the “wolf-like” figure.

The decision to process this image using the HOO palette with RGB integration lends a unique depth and visual appeal to the nebula. The Hydrogen-alpha (Ha) and doubly-ionised Oxygen (OIII) channels render a stunning interplay of colours that highlight the nebula’s distinct features. The RGB integration adds a layer of realism, enhancing the stars’ colours and the nebula’s overall colour balance.
