Painting by numbers is a film by Radheya Jegatheva, a 22 year old film maker from Perth Australia who  Write, direct, Animator and compose music for all his films. So far he has won over 400 awards for his works, which is an incredible achievement for his age

I was introduced to Radeheya by producer Matt Hearn who run a film production company in Melbourne called Hotglue (Wolf Creek) at the Port Short film festival in Port Douglas Australia in 2019 and I was blow away by the quality of his work, especially for his age. Since Radehya is mostly self taught, Matt and I offered to mentor him on his next project and show him everything we knew about film making.

Then opportunity finally came to make a short film for TEDX Sydney 2020 which asked several film makers to create a film about “Change”. Radheya, Matt Hearn,Jay Jay Jegatheva (Radheya dad) and myself decided to collaborate together on this. Radheya wanted to make a film that explored art, history, the legacy of humanity through the prism of the climate crisis using some of the most famous paintings in the world, and the Seven Deadly Sins. At the time of making this film we had  just come out of the biggest bush fires the world had every seen and it was really important to all of us to take action through our art.

This film was produced during lock down remotely. Radheya did the entire animation on his MacBook Pro and we co-wrote the music together through a few zoom sessions where we would share and draft ideas together. I then ended up doing most of the sound design and mixing the film in Dolby Atmos from my studio.
